It has been many years since I was able to walk my dog. I used to love getting dressed up in wellies, macs and treats and off to meet up with fellow dog walkers. Arn’t they an amazing bunch of people. I have learned such a lot from them from recipes to holidays to health concerns but unfortunately that stopped when my heart started misbehaving and then I was forced to employ a dog walker. I have had some great ones and some that were lacking. I feel that many think that dog walking is an easy way to earn money without realising the commitment and dedication needed for the job. To be fair they must have some difficult dogs to contend with.
My first lady was called Nat and she was great. Lou used to go out with her very happily and she became a good friend. Unfortunately we are no longer in touch. Next doggy walker was Karen and I’m still in touch with her. She too was great.
Then we moved and I have had a very difficult time trying to find a committed walker. True there are a few but I still struggle from time to time although at this point of time my walker who is known as Jan has been great. She took Jet to the vet for me this week for his jabs and annual check and she is always willing to help me if I’m struggling which these days is quite a lot.
I’m a member of The Cinnamon Trust who on occasion have managed to find a walker for me. I don’t think they have as many volunteers as they would like to fill the gap that we of an older generation need sometimes. Great organisation. In my past I too was a volunteer dog walker.
If you are looking for a walker I wish you all the best.
